Things to Do in Banff

This past summer I have spent an entire month exploring Western Canada! One of the places I stopped in was Banff National Park of course! If you are travelling through Alberta, Banff is definitely a must-see! It is one of Canada’s oldest and largest national parks. It encompasses 6641 square kilometers of mountainous terrain, with LOTS to do and several beautiful sights to see. Here are some of things you can do next time you are in Banff!

HIKING IN JOHNSTON CANYON

This is one of the most popular attractions in Banff, and for good reason! It has many waterfall lookouts that have that beautiful blue glacier water. It is also accessible for most as it has a paved path. This is a hike that many can do from all sorts of ages and abilities. The full trail is about 5.1km with an elevation gain of approximately 262m it also has several other connecting trails. The path is quite narrow and can get very busy during the peak months of summer. I visited during July during the evening time, and it was practically empty. I would suggest either waking up early or going after dinner to beat the crowds. If you are visiting in the winter months, I would highly suggest wearing proper footwear like crampons/spikes as the path gets very icy with the mist from the waterfalls.

TRIO SIGHTSEEING ADVENTURE

There are many different tour groups within the town of Banff that offer access to several attractions so that you can make the most out of your stay. One that I would recommend is getting a tour that also includes access to the Columbia Icefields so you can walk right on the glacier and drink probably the freshest water right from the source! We opted for a tour that included the Athabasca glacier, access to walk on the skywalk, a Lake Minnewanka cruise and tickets to go on the Banff Gondola!
